A fatal accident on Nutty Brown Road ended in one death and two hospitalizations after an SUV collided with a dump truck last week.

The accident occurred in Hays County at approximately 12:18 p.m. on Wednesday, May 11. A 2001 Toyota 4 Runner was traveling southwest on Nutty Brown when it began to travel off the right side of the roadway and overcorrected to the left. This caused the vehicle to travel into the northwest lane of traffic, into oncoming traffic, and crash into a 2006 Kenworth belly dump truck head-on, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

The crash shut down part of Nutty Brown Road, beginning at Nueces Lane, for a portion of the late morning and afternoon, according to the Hays County Sheriff's Office.

As a result of the crash, the male occupant of the SUV was pronounced dead at the scene. He was identified as Santiago Sal Siquinaja, age 67, from Dripping Springs.

The female occupant of the SUV was airlifted to St. David South Austin Medical Center. The male driver of the dump truck was transported to the same hospital by Hays County EMS.

"The Texas Department of Public Safety would like to remind all drivers to minimize dis tractions, don't drive fatigued, don't drink and drive, obey traffic control devices and always wear your safety belt," said Sergeant Deon Cockrell, Texas DPS.

A copy of the crash report can be obtained once the investigation is completed.
