DS Farmers Market to change location

The Dripping Springs Farmers Market is moving to a new location on March 23: The Pound House Farmstead.

The Dripping Springs Farmers Market is moving to a new location on March 23: The Pound House Farmstead.

Since 2009, the City of Dripping Springs has held its weekly farmers market at Veterans Memorial Park, in an area often referred to as “The Triangle.” In that time, the market has seen sustained growth and popularity, so much so that it was voted the #1 Farmers Market in Texas three of the last four years. Meanwhile, The Pound House Farmstead has been the center of Dripping Springs’ heritage since the 1850’s — first as the original log cabin home of one of the town’s founding families and, in recent decades, as a history museum. Combining the two local landmarks is a recognition of the agrarian heritage of Dripping Springs, according to representatives from each.

The move is not only intended to create a deeper connection between the iconic DSFM and the heritage of the city, but also to provide more room for vendors, activities and future growth, said Jenny Pack, executive director of The Pound House Farmstead.

“As a founding family of what is now Dripping Springs, the Pounds were at the hub of community life, opening their house and grounds to serve as a medical office and hospital, church sanctuary, schoolhouse and social gathering place,” Pack explained. “Bringing the Dripping Springs Farmers Market to our Farmstead… it’s a perfect partnership.”

The Farmers Market will continue hosting a variety of vendors with fresh produce, grass-fed and pasture-raised meats and eggs, freshly baked breads and homemade pies, regional honeys, handcrafted jellies and jams, natural soaps and other personal care products, snacks and treats, crafts and more.

"This is an exciting time,” said Gouri Johansen, Chair of the DSFM Committee. “This move will not only benefit the vendors and their customers, but it gives the community more opportunities to learn about our heritage and the Farmstead. I’m excited about the future for both parties by moving the Market to this beautiful setting. It’s perfect for vendors, shoppers, families and more.”

The new venue will provide more room for the DSFM, with additional vendor space, customer parking and the potential for future expansion.

“Like the City, the Farmers Market has seen sustained growth and that has strained our current location,” said DSFM Manager Charlie Reed. “The move gives the market a pastoral setting with ample shade supplied by tall Live Oaks, surrounded by five acres of natural Hill Country beauty. Adding to its authentic rural ambiance, it’s within minutes of both U.S. Highway 290 and Ranch Road 12, giving easy access to visitors.”

The Pound House Farmstead is located adjacent to Founders Memorial Park off Founders Park Road and can be accessed via RR 12 North or via Rob Shelton Boulevard. Market hours will be from 3 to 6 p.m.
