Dripping Springs to host first art tour

Three Dripping Springs venues will participate in an art tour this weekend, launching an ongoing art tour availability for the community and its visitors.

The tour will take place on Saturday and Sunday, May 21 and 22, throughout the Dripping Springs area. All three participating venues — Mercer St. Art, Carved Stone and Studio: 13 — will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Following the weekend tour, the venues will open at their individually scheduled times.

“A new art tour is starting … in Dripping Springs,” said Pam Owens, president of the Dripping Springs Visitors Bureau. “This will add a new dimension to the city for local residents and our many visitors. We have great restaurants and beverage tasting venues, as well as a variety of overnight lodgings, but we have not had an organized program for the display of quality art.”

Doyle Fellers, who initiated the tour concept and is a former board member of Destination Dripping Springs, said he believes the tour will help local artists of all kinds.

“There are many great artists and artisans in and around Dripping Springs that create jewelry, pottery, glassworks and other crafts, but few have venues to display their work,” she explained. “ In addition to offering our ongoing availability, we plan to periodically host special events highlighting and supporting other local artists.”

Mercer St. Art, LLC, is located in the Warehouse District in the center of Historic Dripping Springs at 330 W. Mercer Street, Suite 6. The gallery exhibits original paintings, sculptures, glasswork, jewelry, pottery, and other fine art crafted by some of the best artists and artisans in the Central Texas Hill Country.

Carved Stone, located at 5300 Bell Springs Road, rests on a property designed for relaxation and enjoyment. It is the home of the Dripping Springs Sculpture Garden and the workshop of noted sculptors Phil and Michele Hoggatt.

Studio:13 is situated on Cypress Fork Ranch at 1300 Creek Road, a short distance south. The home of painter-sculptor-poet Fellers, visitors can enjoy picturesque scenery while experiencing a sculpture garden and gallery.
