TIGER LACROSSE VS LAKE TRAVIS
Dripping Springs took on Lake Travis lacrosse in a highly anticipated district matchup on a beautiful Hill Country night, Thursday, Feb. 14. The Tigers were looking to get their first ever win against the Cavaliers. Dripping Springs led the entire contest and ended up losing in double overtime 5-6.
The key to a Lake Travis victory would have to come from their zone defense and their goalie, Caleb Campbell. Campbell is billed as one of the best in the State. It looked like their game plan was working. LT held Dripping Springs scoreless until the 3:27 mark, when senior Ryan Thomas put one in the back of the net. Hot-handed junior Nic Austin would add two more goals in the last minute of the 1st quarter.
Another packed house in Dripping Springs would get to see the stingy Lake Travis defense as they shutout the Tigers in the 2nd quarter and cut the score to 3-1 going into halftime. Austin would scored two more in the 3rd and the Cavs added two more as well. The Tigers would head to the 4th quarter up 5-3 and never hit pay dirt the rest of the night.
Austin’s effort landed him with the KDRP Player of the Game and he also took home the coveted hammer for gritty play. Alex Schlab was 8 of 13 at faceoff. Connor Mogen had 13 saves in goal.
Junior Varsity beat the Lake Travis counterparts for the second time this season, 6-2. They have perfect record of 8-0.
The Tigers are off for Spring Break and will not be back in action until March 30 when they travel to play fifth ranked The Woodlands. They meet up with Seven Lakes on the 31st.
