Dripping Springs prepares for municipal elections

The city of Dripping Springs, in coordination with Hays County, is preparing to begin its election season this coming spring with three city council seats up for grabs.

The city of Dripping Springs, in coordination with Hays County, is preparing to begin its election season this coming spring with three city council seats up for grabs.

The city of Dripping Springs conducts elections each May with the mayor and council members places two and four elected in even years and council members places one, three and five elected in odd years. Accordingly, this year’s election will determine City Council Places One, Three and Five, which are currently held by Mayor Pro Tem. Taline Manassian, Geoffrey Tahuahua and Sherrie Parks, respectively.

Candidates for the 2023 general election may file an application for a place on the ballot starting Wednesday, Jan. 18. The deadline to file is Friday, Feb. 17 at 5 p.m. Election day is Saturday, May 6, and early voting will be available April 24 through May 2.

Possible candidates are encouraged by the city to note the qualifications for office under Dripping Springs’ government type: Type A, General Law Municipality (as according to the Texas Local Government Code, Section 22.032).

In order to be a city council member, candidates must have resided for at least one year in the state and six months in the city prior to the filing deadline. They must be at least 18 years of age, and they must be a registered voter in the county elected from by the filing deadline.

Additional election resources, deadlines and forms are available on the city’s website. Filers may also get information and documents in person at Dripping Springs City Hall: 511 W Mercer St. in Dripping Springs.

Applications for Ballot by Mail may be requested from the Hays County Voter Registrar or downloaded online. Voter Registration cards are available at various locations throughout the community, including but not limited to Dripping Springs City Hall, Dripping Springs Public Library and Hays County Offices.
