The Lady Tigers basketball team was able to play with less pressure allowing them to have success. This was the case in the 73-21 win over Lehman. Although the Lady Lobos are experiencing a winless season, they were still providing opposition to work against. Coach Batson substituted freely and everyone was able to get quality time and practice. What was encouraging was the players worked the ball much better and were looking for the open player. The more a player practices the correct moves the better they get at it and can perform the same maneuver against better teams. Practice makes perfect. Still left to work on is quality shooting skills for higher percentage accuracy. That won't come without extra gym time doing it correctly.
In less than ten seconds Makynna Hubbard popped a three and the scoring was on. It was 8-2 at the four-minute mark then the bottom dropped out in the last four and the quarter ended 26-4. It never got better for Lehman. The half ended 41-9 and after three 51-12. Ella Smith had an excellent night as she worked the paint well for 18 points from layups and getting fouled for 6-8 free throws.
Their game with Veterans Memorial was the story of their life this year. Another of those games there for the taking only to fall a few points short as the Lady Tigers took the game into OT before losing 52-48. DS trailed 11-5 after one and gained a point in the second as the half ended 19-24. VM stretched their lead to 41-32 after three. DS came back with a vengeance to tie it at regulation 43-43. The Lady Tigers just could not sustain their surge into the OT period.
