Dripping Springs swim team takes second in district meet

The swimming and diving program at Dripping Springs High School has been kept to a high standard under the direction of first-year head coach Michael Hoskovec.

Both of the Dripping Springs High School swimming and diving teams had successful showings at the District 18-5A Championships in San Antonio on Jan. 28. The boys and girls teams each came away with second-place finishes behind Boerne Champion High School, while 28 students qualified for the Region V-5A competition for placing among the top-six finishers in their respective events. In addition, Hoskovec was named the District 18-5A Girls’ Coach of the Year.

The girls’ team captured five first-place finishes, including a victory in the 400-yard freestyle relay with Athena Turner, Macie McCurry, Anna

Hoskovec and Riley Dalton taking gold. Individually, Hoskovec took first in the 200-yard and 500-yard freestyle races, Turner finished first in the 100-yard butterfly and Peyton Grot-Lopp captured first in the 100-yard breaststroke.

For the boys, Gage Hembree took first in the 200-yard individual medley, also winning the 200-yard medley relay with teammates Colin O’Connor, Joseph Parsons and Aidan Jones.

Dripping Springs, along with district champ Boerne Champion, joined others at the Region V-5A meet at the Texas A&M Student Center Natatorium in College Station.
