DSCF announces new board member

The Dripping Springs Community Foundation, a community resource for the generation of monetary funds for area nonprofits, announced the addition of Jorge Babot to its board of directors.

The Dripping Springs Community Foundation, a community resource for the generation of monetary funds for area nonprofits, announced the addition of Jorge Babot to its board of directors.

“I am very happy to welcome Jorge to our board,” said DSCF President Robert Musgrove. “I think he will add tremendous value to our organization as we strive to serve the needs of our community and our area non-profits. Jorge previously served on the board of a similar community foundation that served several counties in Northern California. Also— he, and his wife Sharon, retired to Dripping Springs in 2017, and in the past five-years, he has acquired good working knowledge of our locality. All of this will make him an exceptional resource. Jorge will serve on DSCF’s Finance Committee and help with our outreach.”

Babot was born in Cuba. He was brought to the United States when he was 11 years old, along with his brother Ramon who was age 12, by Pedro Pan (Peter Pan) Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Miami. After a year and half at an orphanage in Sacramento California, they were reunited with their parents. Today, Mr. Babot states, he is 'a proud citizen of the United States.”

In his professional life, Mr. Babot had a 47-year career in construction, operation, maintenance, and administration of large industrial facilities in the downstream oil, 2 power, and pulp and paper industries.

DSCF has served the Dripping Springs Community for the past 22-years and is best known for awarding monetary grants to area nonprofits on a semi-annual basis. Proposal requests area accepted on or before July 31 and January 31 of each year.

Musgrove said DSCF’s focus under his leadership is “meeting the needs of the underserved... addressing hunger in the community, senior services, and mental health.” According to Musgrove, in recent years, DSCF has been involved in “bringing mental health resources to the community, the initial funding of the Christmas lights downtown project, the expansion of the Helping Hands Food Pantry, and the funding of the upcoming city skate park.”

Potential donors seeking to make a contribution to DSCF before the end of the year are asked to contact Musgrove directly at [email protected] .
