After a fast start on the season, the Dripping Springs High School Tigers have cooled off in the last seven.
They have lost five of those, including their first two district games. The Tigers dropped a 78-58 decision to Vandegrift High School in a scheduled game, then played in the Georgetown Jack Frost tourney. They opened with a 6356 win over Argyle High School, then lost to Vista Ridge High School, 8068. They got the best of Smithson Valley High School, 66-58, before dropping the game with San Antonio’s Churchill High School, 67-51.
The district opener was at home with Bowie High School. It ended up being a difficult heartbreaker with a 76-75 loss. The Tigers found themselves fighting from behind all night long, trailing by as much as twelve points along the way. It would be one of those games where the Tigers would doggedly pursue and catch up but would have to deal with a spurt by the Bulldogs that would push Bowie back into the lead. This would be the story all game long. Bowie would lead after one 2320 and at the half 38-32. They hung on after three quarters at 56-49.
Bowie had a couple of smooth players and they would be in charge of moving back in front. The Tigers would make up the difference with a torrid 26-point fourth. Free throws put the Tigers ahead 75-73 and with 10.7 seconds remaining. However, Bowie would work the ball around and get off a three-point shot from the top of the circle that hit nothing but net. The Tigers had 1.7 seconds to answer, but the shot fell short.
The short trip over to Johnson High School made for a long trip back as the Jaguars dominated the game 75-49. The schedule will not get any better as the Tigers take on Austin Akins, Lake Travis and Westlake.
