The Dripping Springs High School girls’ basketball team opened their district play with the Austin High School Lady Maroons, one of the top teams in the area.
After the Lady Maroons got rolling late in the first quarter, the Lady Tigers fought to keep up, ultimately falling 6019. A three-pointer by Azaria Arnold early-on gave DSHS a lead they would not relinquish for over a half of the quarter; however, the Lady Tigers could not keep the advantage, and the 3-2 lead quickly melted away.
Austin High turned up the pressure, and the Lady Tigers turned over the ball numerous times for easy baskets as DSHS fell behind by the end of the first quarter. 195. From that point, the Lady Tigers could not score much more. The score was 38-7 at the half and 51-11 after the third quarter.
Earlier in the week, the Lady Tigers played St. Michael’s Catholic Academy, faring much better in a 50-24 win. Jordan Cox had the hot hand inside to lead the team with 19 points. Several other players took turns to aid the cause. A fast start propelled them to a 20-4 first quarter. St. Michael’s put up a strong battle in the second, but the Lady Tigers held them off as the half ended 30-17. After the third quarter, the score was 44-19.
