Lady Tigers eke out win over Vandegrift

The Dripping Springs High School Lady Tigers volleyball team almost cashed in their chips in the first round of play.

The Dripping Springs High School Lady Tigers volleyball team almost cashed in their chips in the first round of play.

They were paired with the Vandegrift High School Lady Vipers, a team that made it to the regional finals last year. Before they knew it, DSHS had dropped their first two games — and that, in volleyball, is almost a sure loss, having to win the next three to advance. But “when the going gets tough, the tough gets going,” and the Lady Tigers certainly lived up to that.

Freshman Henley Anderson took the team on her shoulders with some outstanding stats to anchor the comeback. In the fourth game, DSHS found themselves trailing 24-21, but the Lady Tigers found the will to score the next five points and take the game 2624. From there, they took the fifth game 1511 and moved on to play San Antonio’s Johnson High School in the area matchup. Thankful to be there, Dripping Springs made sure not to mess around with Johnson and downed them 3-0 to put them in the regional quarterfinals opposite Round Rock. That game was played last Tuesday, Nov. 1.

Prior to the bi-district matchup, Coach Kane looked around to find the best practice game he could to prepare for the playoffs. He found Highland Park, the number one team in 5A. Good teams are good teams, no matter the classification, and Dripping Springs was shut out 3-0 in very close games.
