DSHS Girls' Cross Country wins district title

The Dripping Springs High School girls’ cross country team captured the District 26-6A Championship on Thursday at Walter E. Long Park in Austin.

Dripping Springs totaled 38 points as a team with all seven runners finishing in the top 20 and all five scorers placing in the top 11. Junior Madison Johnson was the top finisher for the Tigers, timing 19:41 over the five-kilometer course to finish third. Junior Chandler Latham placed sixth with a time of 20:00, just five seconds ahead of sophomore Sofia Vences — who finished eighth in 20:05. Freshman Laurel Hoskovec (10th) and junior Mia Simons (11th) rounded out the DSHS scoring by timing 20:10.0 and 20:10.4, respectively. Sophomore Alexa Velasco (19th) completed the course in 20:41, and junior Rylea Bernhard (20th) finished in 20:43.

Lake Travis High School finished second as a team behind Dripping Springs with 61 points while Bowie High School totaled 74 points for third. All three teams will advance to Region IV-6A Championships on Monday, Oct. 24 in Corpus Christi.

Dripping Springs placed sixth as a team on the boys' side, finishing just four points behind Johnson High School. Junior Ramsey Zogaib led the Tigers with a 16thplace finish (16:55), followed by senior Austin Wolfe in 19th (17:00).

Austin High School captured the boys' title with 53 points, followed by Lake Travis (59 points) and Bowie (64 points).
