What can you say? Your team has led the game from the very beginning by as much as twelve points late into the third and by ten starting the fourth. The lead melted away until tied at 42 with 48 seconds remaining. DS added a free throw at 25 to go ahead only to have Alamo Heights put up a long three that hit nothing but net and their first lead with ten seconds left. The Lady Tigers got an attempt off and was fouled with less than a second left. A chance to tie and go to OT. However, the second free throw bounced harmlessly off the rim and the Lady Tigers suffered a cruel 44- 45 loss.
The previous game the Lady Tigers took on the league-leading Lady Cougarettes of NB Canyon and little surprise the result was a 51-25 defeat. These two losses shut the door on DS hopes of making the playoffs. They have four games remaining. Standings: Canyon 13-0, Boerne Champion 10- 2, Kerrville 8-2, Seguin 7-4, Hays Johnson 5-6, Veterans Memorial 3-7, DS 3-9, Alamo Heights 2-11, Lehman 0-10.
The start for the Lady Tigers versus Alamo Heights looked like this was going to be a blowout victory. Azaria Arnold opened with a layup followed by Makynna Hubbard's trey and back to Arnold for another basket and DS had a 9-0 run. Madelyn Robles found her spot and hit two consecutive threes to add to the 21-10 margin after one. However that magic did not return for the rest of the game. The Lady Tigers did enough scoring to keep them at bay. Two baskets and a free throw and they went to the locker room leading 26-18.
The third one was looking up as the Lady Tigers upped their lead to a comfortable ten at 37-27. No one could see the end coming as two quick threes got it to four and the slow battle was underway. DS could only manage a basket and 5-12 from the line. Another one of those games where they could not finish. The team regressed from their last home game on two fronts. The first was rebounding. They had always chased down rebounds and come up with a batch. On this night Alamo Heights kept coming up with the ball and the Lady Tigers did not get many second chances. The second was their shooting. They went back to throwing the ball for a shot and not form shooting. On the night they hit 8-40 from two and 6-23 from three.
