Dripping Springs Mayor Foulds proclaimed that September is officially Childhood Cancer Awareness Month in Dripping Springs.
Prompted by Primed 2 Fight Foundation, a local nonprofit that supports pediatric cancer patients, some local businesses have “gone gold” for September in honor of the ribbon color for pediatric cancer. Six local businesses have designated a product to advertise in the month of September with a portion going to Primed 2 Fight Foundation. Primed 2 Fight Foundation also hosted Fight Like a Kid Fest on Sept. 24 at local brewery Twisted X as a way to rally the community about Childhood Cancer Awareness month and raise money for the nonprofit.
“Every day in the United States, 47 children ages 0-19 are diagnosed with cancer,” the proclamation stated. “One in 285 children in the U.S will be diagnosed with cancer by the time they are 20 years old. It is estimated that 400,000+ new cases of cancer affect children each year.”
“In the last 20 years only four new drugs have been approved by the FDA to specifically treat childhood cancer,” the proclamation continued. “Too many children are affected by this deadly disease and more must be done to raise awareness and find a cure. The City of Dripping Springs encourages the community to observe Childhood Cancer Awareness Month and support his cause that so deeply impacts families in every community across this country.”
The Primed 2 Fight Foundation provides joy and encouragement to pediatric cancer warriors and their families by donating My Chemo Fairy Gift Sets to clinics and hospitals throughout the US. My Chemo Fairy includes a boy or girl fairy, a story book and a You Got This! bag for treats. Chemo Fairies come to visit the child during their chemotherapy treatment, radiation, or other treatments and go back to the Chemo Fairy Garden until the next treatment.
