The city of Dripping Springs proclaimed this September as “National Preparedness Month,” encouraging citizens and businesses to establish their own emergency preparedness plans and sign up for emergency alerts.
This proclamation signifies an effort by the city to ensure locals have prepared themselves and their businesses for any unexpected situations, including but not limited to natural disasters and potential terror attacks. The move is part of a larger effort by the Capital Area Council of Governments, an advocating, planning and coordinating entity for important regional issues in the 10-county Austin metropolitan area. This includes Bastrop, Blanco, Burnet, Caldwell, Fayette, Hays, Lee, Llano, Travis and Williamson Counties.
“September is National Preparedness Month, which serves as a reminder that we all must take action to prepare, now and throughout the year, for the types of emergencies that could affect us where we live, work and also where we visit,” city documents stated. “‘National Preparedness Month’ creates an opportunity for the residents and businesses in the city of Dripping Springs to prepare their homes, establishments and communities for any type of emergency… The city of Dripping Springs, along with other regional, state, and national partners, support the WarnCentral-Texas.org campaign to increase public readiness in preparing for emergencies and educating citizens on how to take action.
“Preparedness is an ongoing effort of all citizens in the CAPCOG region, including youth, older adults, and people with access and functional needs,” the documents continued. “Investing in the preparedness of ourselves, our families, businesses, and communities can reduce fatalities and economic devastation throughout our nation… Emergency preparedness is the responsibility of every citizen in the City and all citizens are encouraged to make preparedness a priority.”
