HHS celebrates 47 years, gives back to local nonprofits

HHS, formerly Hospital Housekeeping Systems, celebrated its 47th anniversary last month, honoring the month by giving back to the local communities it serves.

HHS was founded in Austin in 1975 as a hospital housekeeping organization. Since then, we have diversified our service offerings. Now located in Dripping Springs, it provides housekeeping, culinary and nutrition services, facilities management, and more to over six industries, including aviation, education, government, healthcare, resorts, and senior living. As part of the anniversary celebration, HHS encouraged its team to give back to the local communities in HHS Gives Back, a month-long event.

The team volunteered over 700 hours, providing a value of over $21,000.

In the Austin area alone, the corporate team assisted in the garden at Casa De Miel, hosted an entrepreneurship day for the children at Burke Center for Youth, and volunteered with Foster Village. They also organized a canned food drive for the Dripping Springs Helping Hands Food Pantry, collecting over 170 pounds of food to support local families in need.

'We are so grateful for the HHS team that came and served at our resource center,” said Chrystal Smith, founder and CEO of Foster Village. “Not only did they knock out some large projects that would have taken us weeks to complete, but they also took the time to really understand our mission and the importance of community support around the vulnerable population that we serve.'

HHS' goal with the month-long celebration is to empower its teams to continue to support their communities throughout the year.

“HHS Gives Back is really an extension of what we’re already doing as a company: supporting and serving others,” said owner Melissa Terry, HHS. “There’s strength in numbers, and our company serving a local nonprofit is a big help to these often smaller organizations.”

HHS made the move to Dripping Springs in 2019 after Terry and her family moved into the area in 2011. Seeing the sprawl of Austin, Terry said she knew that moving HHS out to the Drip was the right decision.

“There’s a community feel here, and everyone really is neighbors,” she explained. “We are very diverse in our services and in the people that serve, and we are so thankful for the way that Dripping Springs has welcomed us.”

“We were looking for a long-term home for our headquarters, a space that could evolve and grow with our organization as we continue to expand,” said HHS President and Chairman Emeritus Joe Terry. “We chose to… settle in Dripping Springs for this reason.”
