A car chase by law enforcement officers ended in a crash Thursday night. The suspect, identified by the Hays County Sheriff’s Office as Jeffrey Robert Spohn, 52, has not yet been apprehended.

The police pursuit, a joint effort between the Hays County Sheriff’s Office and the Travis County Sheriff’s Office, took place on Fitzhugh Road on Wednesday, July 20 at approximately 8:41 p.m. Officers received a call about a disturbance between a male and a female and began pursuing the suspect after he was recognized by officers at a stop sign, according to the Hays County Sheriff’s Office.

Officials said the female victim was assaulted by the male while officers were approaching the scene of the initial call.

“In the midst of the pursuit, the suspect turned into a field,” said Deputy Michael Hipolito, Hays County Sheriff’s Office. “Our deputy went one way around a tree, he went the other way, and the two collided. The officer’s car was disabled, and the suspect got away.”

No injuries were reported from the crash, and the suspect is still at large, according to the Hays County Sheriff’s Office. Warrants have been issued for his arrest for one count of evasion in a vehicle and one count of Class C assault.

“The car rolled over on our property,” resident Melinda Penn Daise posted on Facebook. “I talked to the Travis County Sheriff’s office and they called off the search. [They] did not apprehend anyone. I can only assume the suspect is still on our property somewhere. So I can’t sleep.”
