Four health science students represented Dripping Springs High School at the HOSA International Leadership Conference last month.

The competition took place from Wednesday, June 22 to Saturday, June 25 in Nashville, TN. The conference is a yearly opportunity for HOSA Future Health Professionals members worldwide with chartered associations in the United States and China. Activities included competitive events focused on leadership, professional and technical skills; the annual business of the international student organization of HOSA; educational seminars; and workshops and exhibits presented by professionals about current healthcare issues. The DSHS HOSA chapter had a recordbreaking 2021–2022 season with a schoolrecord 12 students qualifying for the Texas Leadership Conference.

At the international conference, Arysta Visser placed first in Pharmacy Science and received a $1000 scholarship. In April, she placed second at the Texas Leadership Conference to qualify for the international event.

Bailey Inglish recorded a top-10 finish in Medical Reading while Karenna Edwards advanced to the second round of competition in Healthy Lifestyles. Inglish was a fourth-place finisher at the state event, and Edwards was the state champion in her event. Priya Chandrani placed in the top 10 percent of competitors and obtained mastery level on the Healthcare Issues Exam. She also placed in the top 10 percent at the state competition to qualify.

The next HOSA International Leadership Conference will be held at the Dallas Convention Center in Dallas from June 21–24, 2023.

HOSA’s theme for the 2022–2023 academic year is “Beyond All Limits.”

“This next year of leaders will change the game with innovations in education and in the health industry,” its website states. “It’s a new year, a time for new traditions and new ways to do things.”
