DSHS finishes ninth in UIL Lone Star Cup

Dripping Springs High School claimed a fifth-straight top 10 finish in the 2021–2022 University Interscholastic League Lone Star Cup standings by placing ninth among Class 5A schools. To achieve this ranking, DSHS accumulated a total of 69 points across a variety of UIL competitions.

Dripping Springs High School claimed a fifth-straight top 10 finish in the 2021–2022 University Interscholastic League Lone Star Cup standings by placing ninth among Class 5A schools. To achieve this ranking, DSHS accumulated a total of 69 points across a variety of UIL competitions.

The Lone Star Cup recognizes six Texas high schools — one in each of the six UIL classifications — based on their overall team achievement in the following sanctioned UIL academic, athletic and music championships: team tennis, cross country, marching band, volleyball, robotics BEST, football, Congress, spirit, swimming and diving, wrestling, mariachi, film, basketball, robotics FIRST, soccer, academics, one-act play, theatrical design, track and field, golf, tennis, softball, and baseball.

The Tiger soccer team captured the most points (16) for Dripping Springs this year with their first ever appearance in the state title game. The Lady Tiger soccer and volleyball teams added 12 and 10 points, respectively, as they each advanced to the regional finals.

The girls’ cross country team matched their best team finish in program history with a third-place showing at the UIL State Meet. The Tiger band and DSHS cheer squads also competed at the state championships with the band placing ninth at the state marching contest and cheer recording its best program finish of 13th.

Other postseason qualifiers included football, team tennis, softball and baseball.

Point totals for DSHS were as follows: team tennis (6), girls’ cross country (6), volleyball (10), football (4), marching band (4), cheer (1), boys’ soccer (16), girls’ soccer (12), softball (8) and baseball (2).

Class 5A Lone Star Cup Top 10 Standings:

1. Highland Park High School — 108 points

2. Lucas Lovejoy High School — 89 points

3. Frisco Wakeland High School — 81 points

4. Friendswood High School — 80 points

5. Grapevine High School — 79 points

6. Amarillo High School — 75 points

7. Canyon Randall High School — 72 points

8. Georgetown High School — 71 points

9. *Dripping Springs High School — 69 points

10. *Boerne Champion High School — 65 points
