State Representative Erin Zwiener (D-Driftwood) is accepting applications for the Texas Armed Services Scholarship Program.
The TASSP is a scholarship program that affords each member of the Texas Legislature the opportunity to annually award a scholarship of up to $10,000 to a post-secondary student dedicated to participating in Reserve Officers’ Training Corps programs while enrolled in one of Texas’s accredited public or private colleges.
“I look forward to awarding my office’s Texas Armed Services Scholarship to a House District 45 student who has demonstrated a commitment to serving our community and country,” Representative Zwiener said.
To be eligible, a student must fulfill two of the following four requirements:
On track to graduate or has graduated high school with the Distinguished Level of Achievement Plan or the International Baccalaureate Program;
Has a current high school GPA of 3.0 or higher or graduated with a GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale;
Is currently ranked in the top third of their prospective high school graduating class or graduated in the top third of their graduating class;
Has achieved a college readiness score on the SAT (1070) or ACT (23).
To receive the scholarship, a student must:
Be enrolled in a Texas accredited institution of higher education in the 2022–2023 academic year;
Enroll in and be a member of good standing of a Reserves Officers Training Corps program while enrolled in the institution;
Enter into a written agreement to complete four years of ROTC training; graduate no later than six years after the date the student first enrolls at an institution of higher education; and after graduation, provide verification of a fouryear commitment to be a member of the Texas Army National Guard, Texas Air National Guard, Texas State Guard, U.S. Coast Guard U.S. Merchant Marine or a contract to serve as a commissioned officer in any branch of the armed services of the United States. The student must meet all prescreening requirements of the Texas Army National Guard, Texas Air National Guard, Texas State Guard, U.S. Coast Guard, U.S. Merchant Marine or the branch of the armed services with which the student enters into a contract.
Interested candidates who fulfill the above requirements should send the following documents to miguel. arredondo@house. texas.gov: high school transcript, three letters of recommendation, resume and a 300–350 word essay on “What does public service mean to you?”
Students must submit the aforementioned requirements no later than 11:59 p.m. on Saturday, July 31.
