City trash and recycle rates to increase

The rates for Dripping Springs residential trash and recycle collection services are scheduled to increase, following a city council meeting last week. The new rates will go into effect July 1.

The rates for Dripping Springs residential trash and recycle collection services are scheduled to increase, following a city council meeting last week. The new rates will go into effect July 1.

Waste Connections Lone Star, Inc. provides Dripping Springs residents with trash, recycle and bulk collection services on a weekly basis. Recently, the city received a petition from Waste Connections to increase the rates for residential services. The city council discussed the petition at its regular meeting on Tuesday, June 7.

John Harris, district manager for Waste Connections, said the petition comes after making every effort to overcome increases in cost of operations.

“We have done our best to mitigate the effects of rate increases from our vendors, higher fuel costs and higher employee wages by remaining as efficient as possible in our daily operations,” Harris said.

The 8.5% rate increase is in line with changes to the US Consumer Price Index over the past year.

Under the new rates, weekly, 95-gallon trash collection will increase from $13.75 to $14.92. Optional weekly, 95-gallon recycle collection will increase from $5.50 to $5.97. These rates are subject to the city of Dripping Springs’ 7% franchise fee and state and local sales tax.

Residents in need of any updates to their services can contact Waste Connections’ local customer service department at (512) 282-3508 or via [email protected].
