The Hays County Sheriff's Office is taking applications for the 2022 Summer Junior Deputy Academy.
The academy is open to all children between the ages of 8 and 10 who reside in Hays County. Two separate academies will be held this summer: one on the west side of Hays County and one on the east side. There are a limited number of seats available, and applications will be accepted on a first-come basis.
The west-side academy will take place in Dripping Springs at Dripping Springs High School from July 19 to 21. The application deadline for this academy is July 8.
The east-side academy will take place in Kyle at Chapa Middle School from June 28 to 30. The application deadline for this academy is June 17.
Academies will run Tuesday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Members of the Sheriff’s Office will introduce academy cadets to various functions of law enforcement including patrol, SWAT, crisis negotiation, criminal investigations, crime scene, K9 unit and community services. Other first responders, such as the Fire Department and Emergency Medical Services, will also be on hand to demonstrate their services and related equipment. Cadets may tour a local fire station and become familiar with apparatus used by different emergency agencies.
Additional presentations may be made by the Greater San Marcos Youth Council, Pedernales Electric Cooperative and Colin’s Hope for segments on bullying, electrical safety, and water safety, respectively.
At the completion of the Academy, the Cadets will have a special graduation ceremony on the last day in which everyone is invited to attend.
Applications are available online at hayscountytx.com or on the Hays County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page. Alternatively, contact Irene Hernandez at [email protected] or Deputy Mark Andrews at [email protected]. tx.us.
