The Henly Volunteer Fire Department will host its annual barbecue fundraising event this year for the first time since COVID-19 began.
The fundraiser was traditionally held in the first weekend of June every year but was canceled in 2020 and 2021 due to the pandemic. On June 11, the Henly VFD will hold the event for the first time in three years, hosting the fundraiser at their fire station on Creek Road. The fundraiser will feature tours of the station, children’s games and live music — all in addition to plates of barbecue ($15 each) from the Dripping Springs Cook-Off Club.
“We’re just trying to get it started back up again,” said Nancy Porter, a member of the barbecue committee and former volunteer with the VFD. “It’s been going on since the 70s, so we're really excited to bring it back and share with the community what the VFD is all about.”
Funds raised from the event go towards local charities, as well as volunteer recruitment and retention for the VFD.
