Perfect game tops series win

Last year at this time, the Lady Tigers were battling the elements and a good-hitting Glenn nine. Torrential-type rains caused the series to be played over five days with DS falling short in moving on. This year it would be a night and day comparison. With practically the same lineup returning, the Lady Tigers were ready to take on Georgetown East View. No repeat as Dripping Springs opened with an 8-2 victory and closed it out with a perfect 4-0 game.

Jordan Cox was handed the ball and took it personally as she tossed the ultimate in pitching, the perfect game meaning she allowed no batter to reach base. Meanwhile, teammates gave her all the cushion she would need by crossing the plate three times in the second and one more in the third. Of course, no-hitters are not accomplished without the help of teammates. This was the case in the top of the seventh. With one-out, the Lady Patriot batter looped a soft fly ball down the leftfield line looking to be the ruin of the perfect game. Enter Erika Kanetzky, who has made a habit of chasing down flies far and wide all season. She made the diving catch and one routine out later the game was history. Cox would add five strikeouts.

The opening game had less drama to the end. DS would open quickly with three runs in the first but would go blank for four more. Meanwhile, EV chased Haiden Anderson from the mound with two in the fourth. Cox would relieve and not allow any more runs while adding a double and homerun to her offensive arsenal. The Lady Tigers would pull away with three in the sixth and two more in the seventh.

The Area opponent had not been determined by press time. It is between SA Highlands and SA Southwest Legacy. Check with school website for the details.

Vs EV2: Hits: H. Kanetzky 3B, E. Kanetzky, Mallory Sandoval, Isabella Martinez, Cox, Scott.
