Speech and debate students make state

Two Dripping Springs High School speech and debate students have qualified for the UIL State Meet in their respective events.

Two Dripping Springs High School speech and debate students have qualified for the UIL State Meet in their respective events.

At the Region IV-5A Academic Meet, Lizzie Galassini placed third in Persuasive Extemporaneous Speaking to advance to state for the second consecutive year. In the Lincoln-Douglas Debate, Brett Banks qualified for state with a third-place finish. Having placed in the top three, both will move on to the state level.

Additional DSHS speech and debate students also competed at regionals. Weston Kirk placed fourth in Ready Writing to medal and will serve as a state alternate. Daniel Hearne and Jake Broyles medaled with fifth-place finishes in Lincoln-Douglas Debate and Prose Interpretation, respectively.

Banks and Galassini will compete at the UIL State Meet on May 24 and 25 in Austin.
