Rates rise for city wastewater customers

City wastewater customers will soon see rate changes on their wastewater bill — a little later than usual.

Wastewater rates are based on water consumption through December, January and February: the winter averaging period. In previous years, updates on rates were reflected on April 1, but the city of Dripping Springs postponed the increase this year. As a result, customers will see this year’s rate increase of 10% (on base and usage fees) reflected in their June 1 bill from the Dripping Springs Water Supply Corporation.

The last rate increase was in January 2018. The city was scheduled for a rate increase in 2020 and made the decision to postpone due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Over the last few years, city staff has worked diligently to minimize rate increases by reducing operational costs where possible,” the city said in a statement. “As day-to-day operational costs continue to rise, the new rate will help offset those increasing operating costs.” “Our rates remain com

“Our rates remain competitive in comparison to neighboring communities such as Bee Cave, Blanco, Kyle and Buda,” the statement continued. “The city is committed to managing those costs and staying efficient while upholding the city’s commitment to a sustainable future.”

Customers who believe that their new wastewater rate is incorrect can apply for a wastewater billing rate adjustment. To receive a rate adjustment, customers must fill out a Wastewater Adjustment Form, available at drippingspringswater.com/all-forms-and reports. Customers must also submit proof via email of usage reports from DSWSC, plumbing invoices or receipts due to breaks or leaks or property owner’s receipts of materials, supplies, etc.

If approved, rates will be adjusted, and the customer will receive notice from the city. The rate adjustment will be reflected on the next month’s bill.
