Dripping Springs High School tennis players Whitney Robbins and Lexian Andrushko have qualified for the University Interscholastic League State Tournament.
The duo captured the Region IV-5A mixed doubles title on Wednesday, April 14, in San Antonio, following their win at the District 26-5A Championship two weeks prior. Robbins and Andrushko beat four teams to earn their regional title, including the District 25-5A champions from Liberty Hill.
The duo won their first match over Corpus Christi Veterans Memorial 6-2, 6-0 before concluding the first day with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Liberty Hill. Robbins and Andrushko opened day two of the competition with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Mission Sharyland. The championship match pitted two District 26 teams against each other with Robbins and Andrushko defeating Boerne-Champion 7-6, 6-2 for a state berth.
Robbins will be making her second-straight and third overall appearance at the state tournament in doubles.
The Dripping Springs girls’ doubles team of Mia Pleasant and Anna Vollenweider advanced to the regional semifinals with straight-set wins over McAllen Memorial and Mission Veterans Memorial before falling to Liberty Hill to end their run.
The UIL State Tournament will be held April 26–27 in San Antonio.
