Drip Lacrosse wrapped up their regular season against Austin High on Thursday night at Chalmer’s Field. With the Austin skyline in the background and fans sitting in truck beds around the field, the Tigers jumped out to 2-0 lead on goals from Brett Williamson and Brendan Linan. The Maroons found the back of the net late in the 1st period to close the gap to 2-1. The 2nd quarter belonged to Austin High as they had 7 more goals while limiting the Tigers to only 4 shots on goal. Williamson picked up his 2nd and 3rd goal of the game and the Tigers trailed 8-4 at the half.
Much like the 1st quarter, the Tigers would jump out in the 3rd with 2 goals, one each from Jack Tanner and Aiden Kane. Austin followed that up with two of their own and a 10-6 lead heading to the fourth quarter. After Austin added two more in the 4th, Kane picked up where he left off, dishing out an assist to Connor Krystof and firing off two goals himself. Williamson added a 4th goal to his stat line and the Tigers were able to pull within 3, but it wouldn’t be enough. The Maroons held at the buzzer 13-10.
Lucas Willingham led the way on face offs, winning 11 and picking up 5 ground balls. Fellow sophomore Kyle Parker also had 5 ground balls and an assist. Krystof and Ryan Williamson each had an assist as well. Cody Smith forced 3 turnovers on defense, followed by Krystof with two and Owen Davis with one. In goal, sophomore Austin Reeves had 12 saves, including 9 in the 2nd half. For this effort Reeves was awarded the hammer.
Drip will face Westlake on Friday night in the Central District Playoff and will then travel to either Houston or Dallas the following weekend to begin the State Playoffs.
