Adeline Spies vaults to state with record jump

Junior will join Izzy Crews at UIL track competition in Austin on May 2-3

The Region IV track meet held at Heroes Stadium in San Antonio was not very kind to the Dripping Springs track qualifiers. Only one individual was able to reach their goal of earning the right to compete in their event at the State Meet in Austin on May 2,3.

Adeline Spies continued to improve her skills at pole vaulting. The junior extended her school record to 12'0 to win first place and a berth at the state meet. There were actually four people that reached that height but those types of events have tie-breaking rules. In this case it has to do with misses along the way. Adeline made the height on her first attempt and none of the others did.

Joining Adeline at Austin will be freshman Izzy Crew in the wheelchair division, competing in the 100, 400 and shot put. During the season she had already qualified in her events for state without having to qualify at the regional meet, although she competed for the experience.

The Tigers competed in four events. Here are those results. 110 hurdles: 6. Mattix Dacunha 14.35; 800 relay: 5. 1.27.27 (Cooper Reid, Jackson Mills, Nick Tyndall, Merrick Bloomgren); 1600 relay: 7. 3.23.27 (Mikel Mendoza, Reid, Maddox Maher, Mills); Long Jump: 4. Mills 22'11.5; 9. Dacunha 21'9.75.

Izzy Crew, a freshman competing in the Wheelchair Division, captured the regional title in all three events to qualify for the state meet.
