Texas Veterans Network, powered by Combined Arms, is hosting the first Central Texas VetConnect Day on April 17 at Patriots Hall in Dripping Springs. The event will feature more than 25 vendors, including state agencies and nonprofits.
“VetConnect Day is all about connecting veterans and their families to resources that they need to access their earned benefits,” Patty Morgan, Central Texas Regional Manager for Combined Arms, said.
The event is open house style, from 3 to 8 p.m. Light refreshments will be provided for veterans and their families. “They could even file claims or have their claims updated. We do have space for them to meet with counselors for their disability veteran benefits.”
Representatives from state agencies like the Workforce Commission, Workforce Solutions, the Texas Veterans Commission and the Department of Veteran Affairs will be on site. There will also be a number of nonprofits who support veterans in attendance.
Vendors will provide information on career opportunities, benefits assistance, service record issues, education benefits, mental health resources, recreational activities and more.
One such vendor is Samaritan Center, a regional mental wellness nonprofit that provides counseling for military families through their Help for Heroes program. Another is Dress for Success Austin, which helps female veterans or female spouses of veterans with career workshops and coaching, and helps provide professional attire for interviews.
Lifepoint Health, which is a mental wellness hospital in Williamson County that provides in-house treatment, will be there. Hill Country TMS, which offers treatment using transcranial magnetic stimulation for mental health and wellness, will also have a table. They have multiple locations in the area, including one in Dripping Springs.
Austin Community College and Art Spark Austin are two of the other groups who will be attending.
“It's a one stop shop, if you will, to get all the veterans in this area connected to their resources,” Morgan said.
Attendees are asked to register in advance at https:// go.combinedarms.us/ vetconnect.
