Saturday night the Dripping Springs Boys Lacrosse team took on Washington Skyline. Pregame festivities included introduction of the seniors and their parents. 3 seniors will continue their lacrosse at the next level and many listed this year’s victory over Lake Travis as a favorite lacrosse memory. This senior group would lead the way for Drip on the night.
Skyline jumped out to a 3-0 advantage before Senior Jack Tanner got things started for the Wolfpack with 2 goals of his own, assisted by Kyle Parker and Senior Ryan Williamson. Walker Wright would snipe a goal before halftime and Drip found themselves down 6-3 at the half. In the second half the Wolfpack added 3 more goals with Aiden Kane assisting Wright and Senior Brett Williamson, while Senior Brendan Linan found Tanner for his 3rd goal of the game. Skyline netted two second half goals and closed out the Drip rally to win the game 8-6.
Senior Cody Smith led the defense, forcing 4 turnovers and collecting 3 ground balls. Charlie Clarno brought additional energy to the field and picked up a couple ground balls, as well. In the cage, Austin Reeves had 9 saves and forced 2 turnovers. The hammer for the game went to Brett Williamson.
Earlier in the week, Drip had a Central District game against Vandegrift as the Faceoff Against Cancer game benefitting the Primed 2 Fight Foundation. A tight first quarter had Drip leading 2-1 behind goals from Tanner and B. Williamson. Vandy opened things up in the 2nd period, notching 7 goals and doubling up the Tigers 8-4 at the half. Kane and Connor Krystof each picked up 2nd quarter goals. Krystof would grab another goal in the 3rd period, but Dripping Springs would trail 14-5 going into the final peri od. Kane fired in another 3 4th quarter goals and R. Williamson added another, but it was too little, too late as Drip fell 16-9.
On the faceoff, the Wolfpack sent an army of 5 different players to win 16 of 27 faceoffs. Lucas Willingham led the way with 8 wins, followed by Krystof and Dominic Bruni with a few wins each. Keller Stafford carried the hammer for his spirited defensive play. Krystof led the ground ball battle, scooping up 7, while Smith and Kane picked up 5 each.
Drip has their final District game on the road this Thursday vs #8 Austin High. JV at 6pm and Varsity at 8:15pm.
