The Texas Relays in Austin is a major college meet and a large part of their program consists of hosting high schools. Qualifiers for the meet must have met a standard before being eligible to enter an event. Dripping Springs has had entries for many years. This year was no different. They qualified in six events. Mattix Dacunha set a 110 hurdle record set by Colt Johnson that had withstood all-comers since 2011.
Some bad luck caused the boys 800 relay team to not get an official time. They ran in the assigned time slot with a time around 1.28, but later the Relays committee ruled that one team was not ready when the gun was fired and declared a rerun later in the meet. Meanwhile, one of the members had left to make their district baseball game. Dripping Springs opted not to run the second race. Members of the relay are Cooper Reid, Nick Tyndall, Merrick Bloomgren and Jackson Mills.
Results of the Meet: 110 Hurdles: 13. Dacunha 14.32*; Girls 800 relay: 47. 1.50.37 (Emma Phillips, McKenna Riley, Rain Collins, Talia Alvarado); 1600 Relay: 21. 3.21.99 (Michael Mendoza, Reid, Maddox Maher, Mills); Long jump: 20. Dacunha 21'.75; 400 relay: 24. 42.58 (Jack Tyndall, N. Tyndall, Miles Kennedy, Bloomgren).
The District 266A meet is being held April 2-3.
