Farmers Market holds ribbon cutting, grand opening

In its second week on the grounds of the historic Pound House Farmstead, the Dripping Springs Farmers Market has seen a dramatic increase in visitors, creating what some are calling a “fair-like” atmosphere.

Feelings of pomp and circumstance were certainly in the air this past Wednesday, March 31, at the market’s grand opening. The Dripping Springs Chamber of Commerce helped formally celebrate the DSFM’s move to the Pound House with a ribbon cutting, bringing out city officials to commemorate the event. The market was previously held at Veterans Memorial Park, otherwise known as “The Triangle.”

“The market started with three vendors in 2009, and thanks to the dedicated efforts of organizers Jo Ann Touchstone and Marianne Simmons, steadily grew in its location at the Triangle,” Dripping Springs Mayor Bill Foulds, Jr. said in an opening statement. “Over the last thirteen years, it became a centerpiece of Dripping Springs, as the Farmers Market Committee, led by Gouri Johannsen, thoughtfully curated a range of local producers.”

“As Dripping Springs has grown, so has its Farmers Market,” Foulds continued, “The time was right to move it to a more spacious location with ties to the city’s historic roots.”

Along with Foulds, Dripping Springs City Council Members Sherrie Parks, Geoffrey Tahuahua, and April Harris Allison were in attendance.

“The Pound House is excited to put the ‘farm’ back in farmstead and cultivate fresh history as a gathering place,” said Jenny Pack, executive director of the Pound House Farmstead. “Nothing makes us happier than seeing our community enjoy the wideopen spaces, shade trees and memorable setting in the place where our town began.”

DSFM Market Manager Charlie Reed cut the ribbon, ushering in a new era for both the Farmers Market and the Farmstead.

“We are both thrilled and lucky to be able to hold our event on this treasure of a venue,” said Reed, “and I absolutely can not wait to see where we go from here.”

The DSFM will continue at the Pound House Farmstead, every Wednesday from 3 to 6 p.m.
