Harlem Wizards draw huge crowd for PTSA event

Almost 800 attendees turned out on Feb. 23 to witness the Harlem Wizards, a professional show basketball team, play against the Dripping Springs Stars, a team of local teachers, staff and the Hays County Sheriff.

The event was hosted by the Dripping Springs High School Parent Teacher Student Association (PTSA). The Stars were coached by the DSHS JV Basketball Coach Jeremy Gamez. The team included 18 members, including several of the Dripping Springs ISD principals (like DSHS Principal Gamez) and many beloved DSISD teachers, some with college playing experience.

The game was planned and coordinated by the PTSA with a large team of DSHS parent, student and staff volunteers on hand to make sure it was a great and engaging community event. The PTSA thanked sponsors Sleep Inn & Suites, who hosted the Wizards, and MaxLiving Chiropractic for their support. Funding earned through ticket, souvenir and concession sales will support programming for DSHS students.

'It was such a fun event. I couldn't stop smiling the whole time and was just so happy to see the smiles on all the families that came out to watch,” PTSA President Amanda Miyamoto said. “I love seeing our Dripping Springs community come out and have a great time while supporting a great cause. I hope this becomes an annual event for years to come.”

Kids wait in line to get their basketballs signed.
