PTA Rally Day set for Feb. 24

Local PTA members are heading to the State Capitol on Monday, Feb. 24 for Rally Day, a biennial event that brings together parents, educators, and community leaders to advocate for children’s education, health, and well-being.

The day will include opportunities to meet with legislators to discuss key issues impacting education; a rally on the Capitol steps to unite and amplify the collective voice of attendees; and informative sessions to equip attendees with tools for effective advocacy and understanding of Texas PTA's legislative priorities.

This year’s lead priorities include:

Improving Public School Funding

Members will advocate to increase the basic allotment, fully fund public schools, automatically adjust for cost of living changes, and base funding on enrollment versus attendance.

Resolving Teacher & Staff Shortages Members will advocate to address teacher and staff shortages and improve retention.

Increasing School Safety

Members will advocate to increase funding for school safety and allow local control to determine what additional safety measures are needed in each school district.

Transforming School Accountability Members will advocate to provide a meaningful state-wide school accountability system that more broadly reviews school and district performance, includes a family engagement component, accurately reflects a student's readiness for future success, and opposes outcomes-based funding.

Keeping Public Dollars in Public Schools Members will advocate against diverting public dollars from public schools. All recipients of public dollars should be subject to the same state assessments, accountability, and parental rights.
