More than 30 Dripping Springs High School band students qualified for the UIL State Solo and Ensemble Contest after performing their pieces from memory and receiving the highest rating at the Region 18 Solo and Ensemble Contest on Jan. 25 at Akins High School in Austin.
Dripping Springs was represented by more than 130 students at the region contest at Hays High School with 80 students and four ensembles earning the highest rating of “1”.
The Dripping Springs High School Tiger Orchestra also attended the regional contest, and six members qualified for the Texas State Solo and Ensemble Contest after memorizing a Class I solo and earning a Division I rating.
Three additional orchestra students earned Division I ratings on their pieces including senior Sophie Chapo (Violin) and sophomores Antoine Soson (Violin) and Alexis Grimes (Viola).
The Texas State Solo and Ensemble Contest will be held on the University of Texas at Austin campus in late May.
