The final home game of a season is traditionally reserved to honor the seniors on the team. Del Valle was the Lady Tigers opponent. The Cardinals had a good team with some height and good athletic ability. Winning a game would not be a cakewalk. Being feted on this night were Katie Newman, Rain Collins, Layne Fields, Gracie Embry and Abigail Robinson. They were introduced with their parents in a pregame ceremony.
In the last two games, the Lady Tigers have really stepped up their effort and that effort has earned them two wins. They have finished the season at 10-21, but the finish is one that coaches have to face all the time. They wish they could start the season all over and be playing like they finished, which could have upped their total to 20, or hope they can start next year as they finished. There are ten letter-winners and a JV squad that won some big games in district to build on. The main thing is to hang onto all for next year and more people that are unafraid to shoot like Rain during her career.
Del Valle with their talent made it tough on DS for the first half as they led 12-5 after one and 22-14 at the half. Rain's shots started falling and they closed the gap to 3035 after three. DV was aggressive and started piling up the fouls to the point that five fouled out. If the Lady Tigers could have capitalized on free throws the win would have been much easier. DS held a 50-47 lead with only seconds left but DV hit a three to tie the game. DS controlled OT to pull out the 57-54 win.
The other three games played were losses to Bowie (3263), Lake Travis (3465) and Westlake 2269).
