The deadline to file for a place on the ballot for Dripping Springs City Council or for the Dripping Springs ISD Board of Trustees is Feb. 14.
The City of Dripping Springs is governed by a mayor and five city council members. City council members are elected to places. Terms for both mayor and council member are 24 months. Places 2, 4 and the mayor have terms expiring in even years. Places 1, 3 and 5 have terms expiring in odd years, and so will be on the ballot this year.
The City Council also serves as the Board of Adjustment. It meets the first and second Tuesday of each month at 6 p.m. To be eligible for council, a person must be at least eighteen years of age or older, a Texas resident for at least one year prior to the filing deadline, and a City of Drip- ping Springs resident for six months prior to Election Day. They must also be a registered voter of the City of Dripping Springs by the application filing deadline.
Elections for Dripping Springs ISD Board of Trustees positions are also held each May. Terms are three years in length. DSISD trustees do not represent “places”; they are at-large representatives.
This year, there are two seats up for re-election. They are currently held by Olivia Barnard and Tricia Quintero.
Candidates for the Board of Trustees in Texas must be a U.S. citizen age 18 or older, be a resident of Texas continuously for 12 months immediately preceding the filing deadline, be a resident of the district continuously for 6 months immediately preceding the filing deadline, and be a registered voter from the territory of the office sought.
Candidates also must not be mentally incapacitated (as defined in policy) and have not been convicted of a felony (as defined in policy).
