The Science Mill in Johnson City is celebrating “STEAMing into 10 years” this weekend, Feb. 7-9, with a special display of working model trains.

The Tinplate Trackers of Austin, Texas is a 3-rail O-Gauge Model Train Club located in the Austin area. The club participates in a number of model railroading activities and events in Central Texas, according to board member Scott Smiley.

The club will lay out track in four concentric circles, complete with detailed scenery, miniature landscape, and a tunnel. Model trains owned by individual club members will be on display and in operation during the event. Members will also be on hand to discuss their hobby, do demonstrations, and answer questions.

“I tell young parents that getting your kids involved with electric toy trains is a fun way to explore mechanics, electricity, magnetism, art, and woodworking,” Smiley said. “This event will give us a chance to get out and show off our hobby. We enjoy it immensely!”

The experience comes with regular museum admission. Hours are Friday and Saturday, 10am to 4pm; Sunday, 12 to 4pm. The museum’s regular exhibits and gift shop will be open during the event.

Tickets can be purchased in advance at www.sciencemill. org under Upcoming Events.
