Water for Texas brings state, industry leaders together for solutions

More than 700 attendees, speakers, sponsors, and legislators attended the soldout Water for Texas 2025 conference hosted by the Texas Water Development Board (TWDB) from January 27 to 29 in Austin, Texas.

“This is our largest conference to date and confirms that state leaders and water industry professionals recognize the importance of collaborating and communicating to ensure a secure water future for Texas,' said TWDB Chairwoman L’Oreal Stepney.

Texas Demographer Dr. Lloyd Potter opened the conference by sharing the state’s demographic trends and projections and the potential impacts on water's future. State Senator Charles Perry later joined TWDB Executive Administrator Bryan McMath for an in-depth discussion on key water policy issues of the 89th Legislative Session.

Filmmakers Ben Masters and Jay Kleberg inspired attendees during the luncheon keynote with a discussion about how art, film, and storytelling can resonate with audiences, influence water awareness and conservation and, ultimately, drive behavior change.

“From innovative water technologies and flood mitigation to data collaboration, emerging science, and more, this conference brought together experts from around the country to discuss trends and best practices,” said TWDB Board Member Tonya Miller. “Attendees had the opportunity to hear diverse perspectives and learn how other professionals have implemented strategies that could be explored in Texas.”

The TWDB is the state agency charged with collecting and disseminating waterrelated data, assisting with regional water and flood planning, and preparing the state water and flood plans. The TWDB administers cost-effective financial assistance programs for the construction of water supply, wastewater treatment, flood mitigation, and agricultural water conservation projects.
