The Tigers were only one game out of first place and expected to have an easy win with winless Austin High. The weather forecast called for deep freezes ahead in the next few days but it did not call for how frigid it would be in the DS gym when it came to shooting accuracy.
It has been rare for the Tigers basketball team to completely have problems making baskets. They only made nine during the game. Meanwhile, Austin was controlling the ball and the boards and producing enough points to never lose the lead. The Tigers got within two (21-23) before faltering again. It was 8-13 after one and 12-23 at the half. After three it was 21-30. The Maroons played keep away the final three minutes.
Previously, the Tigers took on Westlake for the district lead. It was an effort that warranted extra time. Regulation time would find the score tied at 48. After OT the undefeated Chaps had survived 5450. The Tigers got back in the win column with a 51-40 victory over Austin Akins.
