Soccer season is underway

One knows it is time for high school soccer when you check the weather. They have the misfortune of playing in some most unpleasant circumstances. They have to play in freezing temps, cold rain and wind. Then by the middle of the season the weather clears to the point of good conditions.

The Lady Tigers opened their season by taking a trip to Boerne to play Champion. DS got off to a slow start and Champion took advantage with three early goals in the first half. Just before the half the Lady Tigers got their game back in order when Lily Ruff got a goal with an assist from Bailey Stephenson. DS trailed 3-1 at half.

The second half adjustments seemed to work out well. Early on Shea Sisson and Adley Accetta scored goals with an assist from Emerson Bareford to tie the game at three. Unfortunely, late in the game Boerne was awarded a penalty kick that goalkeeper, Rihanna Rogers was able to partially block but could not capture the ball completely and Boerne was able to get it in the net for the winning goal at 4-3.

This past weekend, the Lady Tigers competed in the prestigious Georgetown Governor's Cup where they would encounter a day of cold downpours, cold wind and a sunny day. Results will be in the next issue.

The JV team defeated Boerne 3-1. Goals were made by Kyla Allen (2) and Leylah Trevino. Assists were by Evan Witherspoon and Chloe Sprockett.

Meanwhile the JVB team was playing Hays and defeating them 3-0. Goals were by Clara Ellis (2) and Kinley Clark. Lien Pham had both assists.

Boys Soccer: For the seventh year, the Tigers ventured to one of the soccer hotbeds in Texas. They played in the Dr. Pink Frisco tourney. Knowing the quality of the competition, the Tigers were, as all good programs, highly disappointed when they came home without a win on their record. They opened with an 0-0 tie against Garland. Next came Frisco Memorial. They fell 2-1 with Tucker Fuston scoring the Tigers lone goal. In their final contest with Frisco Centennial a single goal spelled defeat in the 1-0 loss. Sounds pretty promising to me.

Both programs have several more weeks of play before district play will begin. District 266A is full of good soccer programs and the competition for the four playoff berths will be great.
