The Hays County Food Bank is one organization among the beneficiaries of $250,000 in funding awarded by the Fayette Community Foundation’s Rural Community Health Fund in partnership with St. David’s Foundation. The funds, aimed at advancing health equity in rural Central Texas, were distributed to multiple organizations serving communities across the region.
The RCHF, established to address health disparities in underserved areas, collaborates with St. David’s Foundation to align funding with the unique needs of local communities. Entities in Hays County received 42% of the total funding, with an additional 5% allocated to programs spanning multiple counties, including Hays.
Central Texas organizations receiving grants include the Hays County Food Bank, Occupy Campus Ministry, Breaking Bread Outreach Ministries, Outsiders Anonymous and Hays Cares, among others. These groups address issues ranging from food insecurity to homelessness, mental health, and emergency assistance.
David Porter III, an at-large member of the RCHF Advisory Council, emphasized the transformative impact of the funding.
“The impact of the funding thus far has proven to be transformative and uplifting in many regards. Those organizations receiving the grants have been inspired to continue to serve those in need. The grant acknowledges and sheds light on their long-time dedication and devotion to the wellbeing of each other…’neighbors truly caring for neighbors”, Porter said.
The RCHF prioritizes advancing health equity through strategies designed to lower barriers to funding. Organizations without a 501(c)(3) status are encouraged to apply with a fiscal sponsor, with additional support available to help applicants find fiscal partners if needed.
This funding cycle demonstrates the commitment to addressing health disparities in rural Texas and supporting organizations that provide essential services in historically underserved areas.
