Lady Tigers surge to the district lead

The Lady Tigers faced three district opponents and after the results had held their own and took a one-game lead over Canyon. A 2-1 loss to Kerrville Tivy seemed to put DS behind the eight ball. It was their second loss. They took care of business by downing Hays Johnson 9-4. Now they would face Canyon, who also had two losses. This meant the winner would take the lead. Canyon started fast but faltered as the Lady Tigers took the win 8-3.

In the Tivy game all the scores came in the first. DS scored in their top half and Tivy came back to score a pair, including a HR. Hits became scarce and no runs. DS got five. Two each by the Kanetzky sisters Erika and Haley. Taylor Anderson got the other. Jordan Cox pitched the entire game giving up 2H, 2R, 2ER, 3W, 6K, HR.

A 7-run second sealed the deal in the Johnson game. Hits were more plentiful. T. Anderson led the 13-hit attack with four. H. Kanetzky had two (2B), Linan Scott 2 (2B), Haiden Anderson 2 (HR). Others by E. Kanetzky, Attie Lux, Jo Hudgeons, Isabella Martinez and Cox. H. Anderson took the mound and pitched six innings, giving up 6H, 4R, 1ER, 4K. Cox pitched the final inning.

Canyon had already defeated the Lady Tigers, so this was a big match with plenty of marbles to play for. The Cougarettes scored one in the first and had a two-run homer in the third. It looked like DS could be in some trouble as the Canyon pitcher looked to be in the groove. However, Cox would shut them down and the Canyon pitcher could not find the plate, walking nine in all. In the bottom of the third DS caught up and passed when four walks, an error and two hits produced five runs. DS would add one in the fifth and two in the sixth for their total. An unusual play occurred in the sixth when the Lady Tigers had two runners trying to score tagged out by the catcher on the same play.
