In September 2024, the unadjusted unemployment rate in the Rural Capital Area of Central Texas decreased to 3.5 percent, according to data released by the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC). This means that 3.5 percent of the workforce in the nine-county Workforce Solutions Rural Capital Area (WSRCA) were actively seeking employment, totaling 24,503 residents. Additionally, there were more than 21,546 job openings available online across various industries.
Since September 2023, the local labor force has grown by 19,526 residents, with 18,465 of them successfully finding employment within the area. In September, the unemployment rates in the WSRCA counties were as follows:
• Blanco County: 2.8 percent (down from 3.0 percent in August)
• Burnet County: 3.1 percent (down from 3.4 percent in August)
• Hays County: 3.4 percent (down from 3.7 percent in August)
• Lee County: 3.2 percent (down from 3.5 percent in August)
• Williamson County: 3.6 percent (down from 3.8 percent in August)
• Bastrop County: 3.5 percent (down from 3.8 percent in August)
• Fayette County: 3.2 percent (down from 3.6 percent in August)
• Caldwell County: 3.6 percent (down from 4.1 percent in August)
• Llano County: 3.4 percent (down from 3.9 percent in August) In comparison to the statewide unemployment rate, which decreased to 4.1 percent in September, the region's unemployment figures were lower. Similarly, the national unemployment rate dropped to 3.9 percent.
