Cooler weather and soup await at Empty Bowls Project

Cooler, wetter weather is expected this weekend, and for many, that means it’s time for soup. If that sounds like you, you're in luck— the Empty Bowls Project, a highlight on the Dripping Springs fall social calendar, is happening this weekend.

The event, which transforms Dripping Springs Ranch Park Event Center into a culinary celebration with chef-prepared soups, live music, and handcrafted bowls symbolizing hope for those in need, returns Sunday, Nov. 3, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Ranch Park venue.

The annual Empty Bowls Project benefits Dripping Springs Helping Hands and offers attendees an afternoon of food, art, and community for a good cause. With a $25 dona- tion, guests receive a ceramic bowl handmade by local potters, which they can fill with gourmet soups prepared by more than 30 area restaurants. After savoring their meal, attendees are encouraged to take their unique bowls home as keepsakes and as reminders of the ongoing need within the Dripping Springs community.

Local ceramists have created more than 1,000 bowls for the event, so attendees are advised to arrive early. The toughest choice of the day might be deciding which bowl to take home.

Musical entertainment will be provided by local acts The Lockhearts, The Cunningham Sisters, Ghost Jam Players, and Big John Mills, while attendees can enjoy drinks from area breweries and wineries. Raffle tickets will also be available for gift baskets generously donated by community members and businesses, adding extra excitement to the day.

Since its inception, the Empty Bowls Project has been a key fundraiser for Dripping Springs Helping Hands, covering 75% of its annual budget. Last year’s event drew over 1,000 attendees and 100 sponsors. With inflation impacting family budgets, this year’s support is especially crucial— Helping Hands has provided over 282,130 pounds of food to 18,083 individuals so far in 2023, a notable increase from previous years. The organization relies on this event to continue assisting families in need in the Dripping Springs area.

Join the community at Dripping Springs Ranch Park Event Center, located at 1042 Event Center Drive across from Dripping Springs Elementary School on RR 12. The event promises a fun, family- friendly day in an air-conditioned space with ample parking.
