TheHaysCityHideout Coffee House, Hays County’s newest locally owned and operated coffee shop, has opened in Driftwood, nestled in the heart of Texas’s Hill Country. The cozy location, which welcomed its first customers in late September 2024, is across from the Hays City Store Icehouse and Bar, next to Mad Rooster's Liquor Store, and near the soon-to-be-opened Mean Eyed Cat Bar, an Austin original.
Hays City, Texas, boasts a rich history dating back over 100 years. What was once considered a ghost town is now bustling with new business developments, and Hays City Hideout is part of this growth. The coffee house offers ample outdoor seating with orange umbrellas over wooden tables, allowing customers to enjoy the surrounding green fields and trees that define central Texas. Inside, the shop exudes southern charm, featuring cowboy and cowgirl silhouettes on the back wall and a picture of the original Hays City Hotel, which burned down in the early 1900s, as a tribute to the area's heritage.
Owner Madi Shipp, who co-owns the shop with her husband, Mason, described the space as a “country hangout spot” and a welcoming meeting place for all. The couple, both Driftwood locals, are proud to contribute to the blossoming community.
The coffee shop highlights local partnerships by featuring daily fresh baked goods from Faith, Hope, and Cupcakes, a nearby bakery. These exclusive desserts often sell out daily. Customers can also customize their drinks with a variety of flavor options, including hazelnut and lavender. Seasonal favorites such as pumpkin spice lattes, teas, and fruit-based refreshers are also available.
To celebrate Halloween, Hays City Hideout is hosting a coloring contest for children. The winner will be announced Nov. 1. For more information, follow @ hayscityhideoutcoffeehouse on Instagram or visit hayscityhideout. coffee.
The coffee house is open Monday through Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Saturday from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
