The long-awaited US 290 at Trautwein Road project reached a successful and exciting conclusion, with the activation of the new US 290 traffic signals and pedestrian railing installation on the newly constructed retaining walls. Construction of Trautwein Road had concluded in mid-August, with the traffic signal and installation of pedestrian railings the last remaining items to be completed.
Trautwein Road is now fully operational and the collaborative effort between Hays County and TxDOT has dramatically improved visibility and safety at this key intersection. The project team reopened this thoroughfare to traffic after completing the road-lowering phase, allowing commuters to benefit while final touches were underway. Now, with traffic signal upgrades and pedestrian railings finished, the project stands complete.
Improvements to US 290 at Trautwein Road included:
• Lowering Trautwein Road at US 290 to improve visibility
• Adding a dedicated right turn lane from westbound US 290 to Trautwein Road
• Adding retaining walls to Trautwein Road
• Installing new intersection signals on US 290 “As a Commissioner, it's incredibly rewarding to see the completion of the US 290 at Trautwein Road project, a critical improvement for our rapidly growing community,” Hays County Commissioner Walt Smith said in a statement. “This collaboration with Tx-DOT improved safety and visibility at a major intersection and reflects our commitment to enhancing the infrastructure that serves Hays County today and for future generations.”
