Capital area unemployment rate increased to 3.8% in August

In August, the unadjusted unemployment rate in the Rural Capital Area of Central Texas rose to 3.8%, according to data released last week by the Texas Workforce Commission. This means 3.8% of the workforce in the nine-county Workforce Solutions Rural Capital Area (WSRCA), or 25,579 residents, were actively seeking employment. More than 41,023 job openings were available online across various industries.

Since August 2023, the local labor force has grown by 13,881 residents, with 12,429 finding employment within the area. August unemployment rates in the WSRCA counties were:

• Blanco: 3.0% (up from 2.9% in July)

• Burnet: 3.4% (up from 3.2% in July) • Hays: 3.7% (up from 3.6% in July)

• Lee: 3.5% (steady from July)

• Williamson: 3.8% (up from 3.7% in July)

• Bastrop: 3.8% (down from 3.9% in July)

• Fayette: 3.6% (up from 3.5% in July)

• Caldwell: 4.1% (down from 4.2% in July)

• Llano: 3.9% (up from 3.6% in July) 

The region’s unemployment rate in August was lower than the statewide rate of 4.4%, which remained unchanged. Nationally, the unemployment rate decreased to 4.4%.
