In the world of high fashion, Milan boasts the design houses of Armani, Versace, and Dolce & Gabbana.
Paris has Chanel, Dior, and Yves Saint Laurent.
Calvin Klein, Ralph Lauren, and Oscar de la Renta dominate the New York fashion scene. But these villes de mode have nothing on Dripping Springs.
The Gateway to the Hill Country is emerging as the hottest town for fashion – if you're a goat. Can Tyra Banks wear a mohair suit she grew herself? These local models can. It’s here where the lat- est trends for Fall and Spring trot onto the runway at Goat Couture ‘24.
This family-friendly event features a fashion show with goats as the models and their handlers as the fashion accessories. It’s a charity event aimed at raising funds for Future Farmers of America (FFA) chapters in Hays and Blanco counties.
The FFA supports students' education in agriculture and farming. This is the second year for Goat Couture, which was started by Milena Christopher, a Hays County attorney and founder of the Law Offices of Milena Christopher Charities Inc.
Inspired by a similar event in San Francisco, Christopher decided Dripping Springs needed its own version. 'We needed this in Dripping Springs,' she said.
Texas is the leading goat producer in the United States, with the Hill Country being the top region in the state.
The event will be held at Dripping Springs Ranch Park, located at 1042 Event Center Drive, on Saturday, September 28, from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Goat Couture promises a day of dazzling costume competitions, live entertainment, and interactive activities for all ages. Attendees can watch goats dressed in imaginative costumes, participate in family fun activities, and see the skills of local ranchers.
“This event not only brings our community's creativity to the forefront but also guarantees a day filled with excitement, laughter, and valuable connections,” said Christopher.
At 12:55, there will be a live goat corralling demonstration at a.m., showcasing a local rancher and his animal companions in an adrenaline-pumping display.
The main event is a fashion show featuring seven costume categories: “Wild West,” “Holiday Goats,” “Super Goats & Super Villains,” “Hometown Heroes,” “Pairs,” “Out of This World,” and “Celebrities.”
First responders and city officials from Hays and Blanco counties will participate in lighthearted competitions, celebrating local heroes and fostering community unity.
Community members can enter their goats in the fashion show by signing up before September 25. There is a $25 entry fee per contestant, with funds supporting local FFA chapters.
In addition to the costume contest, attendees can enjoy live performances by singer Jillian Hudson, craft tables for kids, food trucks, ice cream, drinks for adults, and games for all ages. Last year’s winning goat, Bella, will be available for a fortune-telling session.
General admission tickets are $10. Children 5 and under attend for free. VIP tickets and packages are also available, with early-bird discounts for tickets purchased before the event. For more information and to purchase tickets, visit goatcouture.org.
